Workshop Description

For this workshop, participants should have already prepared a paper or disk copy of a syllabus and notes for developing one sample lesson. We will use FrontPage, a Netscape composer, or the software of choice to draft an on-line syllabus. We will also create on one sample lesson plan or course module that includes lesson goals, a main assignment, steps for completing the assignment, interaction with other students and the teacher, a method of assessment, and a list of supplementary reading materials and resource links.

Workshop Outcomes

  • Participants will draft the syllabus for an online course and save it as an html file.
  • Participants will create at least one learning module for the course.

Workshop Formats

Online: April 22 through May 10, 2002

Throughout the workshop you will not only work independently on your project, but you will also have the opportunity to interact on-line with the workshop leader and other participants by e-mail and asynchronous discussion.  I will be on-line checking e-mail and participating in the discussion each day, Monday through Thursday, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Since on-line discussions are asynchronous, it is not necessary for you to be at the computer at these specific times. This is only to let you know when I will be at the computer replying to your postings.  We will also schedule synchronous "chats" each week.

Onsite: Scheduled upon request.

This professional development workshop may be completed on-site in one half-day session, usually following Online Course Design I. Content and presentation will be customized to your groups' needs. To arrange for an onsite workshop, please contact Elizabeth Nist.
